History refers to the objective past and the infinite variety of factors, events, and personalities that have shaped human evolution. It represents collective memory and denotes the rational, structured study of the past. People study history to locate themselves, as individuals and members of society, in time and space. History provides vital connections between generations and gives continuity to societies.
