The experimental garden facility was built 2002 in Val Caron, about 25 km north of the Laurentian University campus. It consists of 36 pools of 15cm depth and 18 pools of 24cm depth . The water level in the pools is automatically maintained by pumping water from the ground using solar-energy. The facility enables short- and long-term experiments under semi-controlled conditions minimizing the effort for maintenence, i.e., watering. The facility is best suited for work with wetland plants but by adjusting pot size and water level other plants can be grown there as well. |
