In this role, you will:
* provide expert program advice and guidance in the development and calibration of Ecological Land Classification systems
* develop land management programs
* evaluate ecological sustainability in boreal and far north ecosystems
* provide support to other program areas (silviculture, resource inventory, forest habitat and wildlife populations and wetlands)
What we are looking for:
Mandatory requirement:
* You must possess a valid driver's license to conduct fieldwork in remote areas only accessible by vehicle.
Knowledge:
* advanced knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices associated with the discipline of ecological land classification, soil science, plant and animal physiology and ecology, inventory and mapping, and environmental ecology / climatology
* extensive knowledge of programs related to ecosystems health and the management of natural resources
* proven knowledge of scientific methodologies with the ability to have findings/products accepted in a peer review environment
* demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency with computer systems, statistics and experimental design for inventories, assessment and research projects
* knowledge of workers and supervisors responsibilities as outlined in the Occupation Health and Safety Act.
Analytical and research skills:
* demonstrated analytical and evaluative skills to examine ecological sustainability of ecosystems in the far north
* problem solving skills to identify and analyze management and assessment issues
* ability to conduct reviews and research of scientific literature
* possess a high level of creativity, initiative and judgment to ensure soundness of projects and programs
Program and project management:
* proven ability to design, develop, implement and/or facilitate projects through to completion
* ability to lead and work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
* skills to provide training and information sessions for new or existing staff
* strong organizational skills to set up scientific conferences and meetings and to complete work on projects
* time management skills to meet competing deadlines
Interpersonal and communication skills:
* demonstrated negotiation, and interpersonal skills to provide advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders
* excellent written communication skills to produce and analyze reports and to create presentations
