RESIDENCE FACILITIES

New Residence* (Opening September 2012)
We are pleased to announce that a new residence will be opening in September 2012. This 12-storey residence is for upper-year students (minimum 60 university credits) and has 62 self-contained apartments. Each unit has three or four single bedrooms, living room, kitchen and two bathrooms. The apartments are wired for cable TV, high-speed internet and telephone. In addition, this new residence is connected to Student Street.

West Residence
This six-storey air-conditioned building has 55 furnished self-contained apartments. Each apartment consists of four single furnished bedrooms, living room, kitchen and two bathrooms. Apartments are wired for cable television in its living room and high speed Internet in all the bedrooms. Each floor has a lounge where guests can meet and socialize.

 Single Student Residence (SSR)
Better known as SSR, this very popular and unique three storey building is located on the Laurentian campus. Each apartment has a living room, kitchen, two bathrooms, storage room and high-speed Internet access. SSR provides accommodations for 396 guests and you have access to all services on the main floor (Student Street).

 Mature Student Residence (MSR)
MSR is an eleven-storey high rise providing a very different type of accommodation and offers a one bedroom apartment style living. These 127 units provide considerably more privacy that the traditional style residences.

 University College (UC)
UC is a traditional dormitory-style residence that offers single and double accommodation for 240 guests. Each floor is equipped with television/common room, kitchen, bathrooms and each bedroom features high speed Internet connection. There is a large TV room on the main floor. UC houses the front desk service with a porter 24/7 and outdoor recreational facilities.

 

FEDERATED UNIVERSITY RESIDENCES

Huntington Residence
Huntington's Residence houses 171 students in a co-educational setting which is thoroughly up to date, with excellent kitchen facilities where students can cook their own meals, laundry facilities, TV lounges and study areas. There are 21 single and 75 double rooms. Huntington has its own social centre, a small exercise room and a library. Most students will quickly acquire a nickname, if they do not already have one, such is the esprit de corps that exists in Huntington's residence setting.

University of Sudbury, Lucien Matte Residence
Lucien Matte Residence is home to 174 men and women in 92 single and 41 double bedrooms. Small sections of 12 to 14 students provide for a home away from home@ atmosphere. The common rooms on the ground floor help keep the room sections more quiet. Each room is equipped with cable T.V. service (no fee), an outlet for the Internet (no fee) at each desk and also one for the telephone. Affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church, the residence welcomes some 60 first-year students each year.

Thorneloe University Residence
Thorneloe University Residence can accommodate 58 men and women in single rooms, and normally accepts about 20 new students every year. Affiliated with the Anglican Church, it is open to full-time students of all faiths.

 

 

 

Any facility listed that is followed by (G) can be found on Student Street (hallway connecting UCR, SSR, WEST, the New Residence  and MSR) at the corresponding number.

 Bank Machine
 For your convenience, a Royal Bank Cash Counter is located at the entrance of UCR, between the two doors.

 Change Machine
There is a change machine in the complex, which makes doing your laundry a little bit easier. Located next to the UC porter's desk,  the West and New Residence laundry rooms.  They are in operation 24 hours a day.

 Computer Room
A Computer Room (G27) which is open 24/7 is located at Student Street beside University College and Single Student Residence. The Computer Room contains a number of computers for student use. All computers have access to Laurentian's internet system. The computer room also houses a photocopy machine which can be operated with coins or with your student card.

 Director of Services
The office of the Director of Services (W120) is here to provide the University with postal services, photocopy cards, food services and printing services.

 Exercise Room
An Exercise Room (G1), equipped with cardio equipment and weight stations, is available for the students residing in the complex. Go and give your body that little tune up it might need.

 Games Room
The Games Room (G24) houses pool tables, air hockey, a ping gong table, big screen TV with digital cable, and fooze ball. Make sure you bring your student card! The Games Room is open from 4 p.m. to midnight, 7 days a week (may close. on school holidays). On weekends, the Games Room opens at noon.

 "C-Store"
Located at the west entrance of SSR, the "C-Store" convenience store (G3) is operated by Aramark Canada Ltd. and offers a wide variety of products.

Coffee house / Bistro
Our newest addition to the Residence Complex, located in the New Residence ground floor.  Amenities include coffee / beverage station, soups and fresh paninis.

 Vending Machines
Vending machines are located in the middle of Student Street, near the SSR mailboxes and by the couches in both the New and West Residence, providing a great way to cure the midnight munchies.

 Health Services
The objectives of the University Health Services (G23) are the promotion, restoration and maintenance of optimum health for all. A fully staffed medical office is located on Student Street for all your medical needs, with everything from aspirin to tensor bandages to actual Doctor's appointments. In addition, the Students' General Association (SGA) has, in conjunction with Plaza 69 Pharmacy, made an arrangement to have prescriptions delivered to students living in RES without a fee. Simply take your prescription to the SGA office and they will fax it to the pharmacy as soon as possible. In addition, all SGA members receive a 15% discount on merchandise at Plaza 69 Pharmacy.

 Extreme Pita
The Extreme Pita is an in-house eatery with lounge area and is the ideal place to go when you tire of your own attempts at culinary excellence. Keep the Hitching Post in mind when it comes time for a study break or when ice cream invades your thoughts. Both meal cards and cash are accepted.

 Laundry Rooms
The four laundry rooms on Student Street are coin and university debit card operated washers and dryers. In UCR, there are machines on each alternate floor, and in MSR, these facilities are located in the basement of the building. The cost of both washers and dryers is $1.25 per load. Please report any malfunctioning machines to 673-6597 or to either porter.

 Recycling Center
A Recycling Center has been established to reduce waste in the RES complex. The main bins are located at the entrance of MSR and in WEST. In SSR, there are smaller bins at the bottom of each section staircases and in UCR, there are bins for cans, plastic and glass on each floor. Please help us recycle by not contaminating the recycling bins.

 Residence Office
The Residence Office (G11), located on Student Street, is accessible to residents of SSR, UCR, the New Residence, MSR and WEST. This office is the height of activity during the school year; it is where you, the student, are welcome to just drop by, talk, voice your concerns or offer your suggestions.

Storage Space
There is no dedicated storage spaces in the New, UC or West Residences. Please note that items of furniture or refrigerators are never allowed to be kept in storage due to fire regulations. SSR apartments also have a smaller scale storage room in the apartment for use during the academic year only.  MSR has a common storage locker area with dedicated storage for each apartment.  Please note the Residence will not be held responsible for any articles stored in this complex.

 Study Rooms
Study Rooms are located on the first floor of UCR and on Student Street in SSR, and in the New Residence for a quiet place to study or read.

 Telephones
There are three payphones on Student Street. Each individual room in UCR and each individual bed in SSR is equipped with a jack allowing private lines to be arranged through Bell Canada. The telephone is a contract between Bell Canada and the individual and all outstanding charges and repairs will not be covered by the University. Watch for Bell Phone Center on campus during the first week of school; an opportunity to connect your phone without leaving the campus!
