All available projects for 2011-2012 have been filled. The following projects will be available in 2012-2014.
One MSc project on Metal Fractionation in Ni-Cu-PGE Deposits will be available beginning May 2013, focussed on metal fractionation in Ni-Cu-PGE systems (Sudbury, Noril'sk, and/or Jinchuan). All living expenses, tuition, and research expenses will be covered, but preference will be given to applicants who qualify for a NSERC CGS-D or PGS-D Scholarship (see www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca for details). Applicants must have outstanding academic credentials, strong backgrounds in igneous petrology and igneous geochemistry, and excellent mathematical, computing, and oral-written communication skills. Two MSc projects on the Geochemistry and Petrogenesis of Mafic-Ultramafic intrusions and associated Cr mineralization in the McFaulds Lake ("Ring of Fire") area of northwest Ontario are expected to be available for 2013-2016. This is a newly-discovered world-class chromite deposit with potential Ni-Cu-PGE resources. All living expenses, tuition, and research expenses will be covered. Applicants must have excellent academic credentials, strong backgrounds in igneous petrology and igneous geochemistry, and excellent mathematical and oral-written communication skills. One fully-funded PhD project on Ore Localization and Thermomechanical Erosion at Sudbury will be available beginning May 2013, focussed on the genesis of ore-localizing embayments at the base of the Sudbury Igneous Complex, which host some of the largest Ni-Cu-PGE deposits in the world.
