Two MSc Projects on Timmins Au: MERC anticipates having two fully-funded MSc projects available beginning May 2011, both focussed on ore localization, structure, and wall-rock alteration in the world-class Timmins gold camp. All living expenses, tuition, and research expenses will be covered, but applicants must qualify for NSERC Industry Postgraduate Scholarships (see www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/Students-Etudiants/PG-CS/IPS-BESII_eng.asp for details), which will cover part of the living expenses. Applicants must have strong backgrounds in structural geology, optical mineralogy, and igneous geochemistry, must be interested in underground mapping, core logging, and petrography, and must have excellent mathematical and oral-written communication skills. PhD Project on Metal Fractionation in Ni-Cu-PGE Deposits: One fully-funded PhD project will be available beginning May 2011, focussed on metal fractionation in Ni-Cu-PGE systems (Sudbury, Noril'sk, Jinchuan). All living expenses, tuition, and research expenses will be covered, but applicants must qualify for a NSERC CGS-D or PGS-D Scholarship (see www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/Students-Etudiants/PG-CS/BellandPostgrad-BelletSuperieures_eng.asp for details), which will cover part of the living expenses. Applicants must have outstanding academic credentials, must have strong backgrounds in igneous petrology and igneous geochemistry, and must have excellent mathematical, computing, and oral-written communication skills. Three MSc projects and one PhD project on the geochemistry and petrogenesis of mafic-ultramafic intrusions and associated Cr mineralization in the McFauld's Lake ("Ring of Fire") area of northwest Ontario are expected to be available for 2012-2016. All living expenses, tuition, and research expenses will be covered.
