Our Department aims to provide excellence in its specialist B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in order to prepare earth science and environmental earth science students for careers in academia, industry, government, and/or teaching. The undergraduate programs in Earth Science and Environmental Earth Science provide a solid foundation in the Earth Sciences and, because of our strategic location in the Canadian Shield, provide special opportunities for field-based learning. The graduate programs provide unparalleled opportunities for field, laboratory, and theoretical research in Mineral Deposits and Precambrian Geology.

Please feel free to browse our website for more information. Our Department would be happy to help with any questions or comments and they can be emailed to des@laurentian.ca. Thank you for visiting!

Dr. Andy McDonald, Departmental Chairman

The Department of Earth Sciences and Mineral Exploration Centre are located in the Willet Green Miller Mineral and Mining Research Centre, which was designed from the ground up as a geoscience building. Department faculty, research scientists, and students are working on fundamental geological problems all over the world. If you are interested in studying geology, this is one of the best places in the world to do it!
