Laurentian University’s four-year Mechanical Engineering program offers a comprehensive Mechanical Engineering program (General Option) as well as an option in Mechatronics Engineering. Mechanical Engineering students are also eligible to participate in a co-op placement option. Graduates of the Mechanical Engineering program receive an honours Bachelor of Engineering degree (B.Eng.)
Mechanical Engineering is one of the most established and broadest disciplines of applied science involving the design and analysis of mechanical systems. Mechanical engineers apply a solid understanding of important phenomena including forces, motions, deformations, material and structure strengths, fluid flows, heat transfer, work and energy to solve many practical problems. Working in a broad range of industries, mechanical engineers are concerned with the design and analysis of machinery, robotic systems, vehicles, medical devices, aircraft, heating and cooling systems, manufacturing plants and systems, industrial equipment and more. Mechatronics is an interdisciplinary field combining mechanical, electrical, computer and systems engineering with the main objective of designing integrated intelligent systems.

Kyle Beaudry, a mechanical engineering student, landed summer employment as a designer with Industrial Fabrications in Sudbury. Gaining practical experience by using CAD software, he has been working on a prototype for a specialized vehicle for underground mining. Kyle says that “the co-op placement option was instrumental in my decision to go to Laurentian.” |
4-Year Mechanical Program (including Mechatronics Option) for 2011-2012
**It is strongly recommended that all Engineering students have their own computer**
********************************************************************************************************************
Many first year students enroll for general Engineering without specifying either
Chemical, Mechanical, Mining or Civil.
Due to increased enrollments in our programs and limited classroom capacities,
students must remember to officially declare their discipline to Registrar by email (registrar@laurentian.ca) in 1st or 2nd year.
Please include your name and Student ID when confirming your discipline.
