Every year the English Department sponsors and organizes a variety of extra-curricular events. Canadian writers Fred Candelaria, Frank Davey, Drew Hayden Taylor, Jan Horner, Paul Ledoux, Rita Joe, Lola Lemire Tostevin, Marguerite Anderson, George Elliott Clarke, Ann-Marie MacDonald, Daphne Marlatt, Judith Fitzgerald, Susie Moloney, Laura Robinson, Laura Sky, and members of DuffleBag Theatre have visited the campus in recent years, reading or performing their works and meeting informally with students. The Department also organizes excursions to Stratford every fall and to local theatrical productions throughout the year.

The English Arts Club sponsors events that bring together students outside their classes for films, readings, discussion groups and merrymaking. The Club elects student representatives to the English Department Council, and to the S.G.A. Students interested in becoming members of the English Arts Club should speak to the English Department secretary.
