The Diploma in History

Students who have obtained a 3-year B.A. in History with a minimum 70% average in their concentration may be admitted to the diploma program. Students are required to take 30 credits, as specified by the department, to ensure that they complete the pattern of courses that would fulfil the requirements for a 4-year B.A. (Honours) in History. An overall average of at least 70% is required to obtain the Honours Diploma.

The Qualifying Year Program

A qualifying year in history is available for both full and part-time students preparing to apply for admission into the M.A. program in History. Course selection must be made in consultation with the department.

The Graduate Program

The areas of specialization for the M.A. in History are in the fields of North American Social History, European Social History and the History of Northern Ontario. The department offers two programs leading to the M.A. The first requires eighteen credit hours in courses and a Master's essay. The second requires twelve credit hours in courses and a Master's thesis. Students may take courses in either English or French and on a full-time or part-time basis.
