River Expedition Departs Thursday May 29th
May 28, 2008

Sixteen Outdoor Adventure Leadership students from the School of Human Kinetics are preparing to leave on an adventure of a lifetime. The students, lead by ADVL instructors Stephen Ritchie and Jim Little, have been preparing and -planning this trip over several months. Three days before their departure, the Expedition group learned that the river they originally were planning to navigate was still frozen. In a matter of hours, a new destination, route and plan of action had to be decided on, as 6 guests to the Expedition were ready to depart with the ADVL students.

The Attawapiskat River Expedition 2008 departs Thursday May 29th from the Sudbury Station by train. After 16 hours on the train, with canoes in tow, the Expedition continues on a 2 hour bus ride after which the Expedition group and gear will be flown in to their river departure point.

The students participating in the Expedition are in their 3rd year of the ADVL program. Preparation for this expedition included food and gear preparation, route selection, scheduling of various duties, and some classroom time to review safety concerns, procedures and policies to be followed on such an expedition.
