Occupational Health and Safety - Employee Training Contact Information

One of our missions at the Occupational Health and Safety Office is to enable you to work in a healthy and safe environment. To help us achieve this goal, you may be required to take some of the training courses we have listed below.  This list is not a complete list of health and safety training needs.  Some areas require job specific training which will be provided by the respective departments. Please contact your supervisor to discuss your training needs.

Most health and safety training is organized by the Occupational Health and Safety Office.  For departments that organize their own training and require the service of a OHS officer, the relevant department will be responsible for booking the training facility and providing all training equipment.

WHMIS General Training

One of the three essential elements of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is the worker education program. By law, the employer must provide information and instruction to all workers who work with, or near a controlled product. Employees are required to attend sessions offered by the employer to discuss the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS). This course may be taken in the classroom or on-line.  You can self-register for the on-line course at http://d2l.laurentian.ca

WHMIS Refresher Course

Under the  Occupational Heatlh and Safety Act all employees of Laurentian Univesity must participate in a WHMIS training session as well as a review process.  Each employee is therefore required to participate in a WHMIS refresher course.

This course is designed for those who already had some training on the basic concepts of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS); this course allows you to quickly refresh your WHMIS understanding.
