Description of the Crest: Over the Scroll bearing the name of Laurentian University, within a Tear Drop is the name "Huntington," below the name is an Open Book, and above it is a fir tree between the Hebrew text (from right to left), Hayah Ka'ez.
The Tear Drop represents pure water in free fall. The name, Huntington, is that of Silas Huntington and itinerant Methodist minister who established more than 100 churces throughout this region from 1880 to 1905 and was active in community development for the whole area. The Open Book is the symbol of knowledge and culture. The Fir Tree represents slow but steady growth and increasing strength rooted in the past and reaching up toward the future; the Fir Tree is typical of Ontario.
Hayah Ka'ez is a quotation from the Old Testament ( Psalms, Book 1, Verse 3) that suggests the learner shall grow “He (it) shall be like a tree” - yielding its fruit in season.
