We offer three- and four-year Bachelor of Arts programs in Gerontology, as well as a three-year B.A. degree in distance education that is the first of its kind in Canada. We also offer a Certificate program in Gerontology and, in cooperation with four community colleges across Ontario, a Certificate in Clinical Gerontology. Both the B.A. and Certificate programs may be combined with specialization in another discipline.
Although the Gerontology program is administered at Huntington University, where the core courses are taught, it is offered as a Laurentian University degree. E-mail Dr. Birgit Pianosi, Chair of the Gerontology program, to discuss the program requirements, and click on Admissions for information on registration and enrolling with advanced standing.

Huntington University’s Gerontology Department Hosted Sexuality in Later Life: Legal Views and Professional Issues

On Friday, March 5, 2010, students, faculty, graduates, members of the media and the public at-large gathered at the fourth annual Gerontology Awareness Day.The event, hosted by the Gerontology Department at Huntington University aimed to create awareness, promote the value and celebrate the success of the study and practice of Gerontology. New this year, the event took on the theme of sexuality in later life where guests explored the legal views as well as the professional issues that arise by seniors in the expression of sexuality and intimacy in long-term care settings.
The day featured a keynote address delivered by Judith Wahl, the Executive Director and Senior Lawyer at the Advocacy Centre for the Elderly (ACE) and current Vice Chair of the National Initiative for the Care of the Elderly. As an advocate and educator who taught in the area of public legal education and seniors, Judith’s assisted gerontology students and professionals, healthcare providers and the community at-large in assessing their position on the topic of sexuality in later life.
