Boojum Donation of Books, Conference Proceedings, and Technical Reports
January 9, 2008

On Nov. 5, 2007, the Mining Environment Database received another important donation from Boojum Research.  The donation of approximately 1500 titles is Boojum's former corporate research library, and contains about 300 monographs, 1000 conference proceedings and reports, and an additional 200 technical reports.  A filing cabinet of almost 2500 journal offprints was also part of the donation.

These documents will be added to the Mining Environment Database, and integrated into the circulation, reference and vertical file collections of the J.N. Desmarais Library.

The collection was originally indexed in a Boojum EndNote™ citation database, and each document was assigned a sequential number, with the prefixes "B" for books, "R" for proceedings and reports, and "T" for technical reports.  The Boojum number for all processed reports will be searchable in the Database catalogue.

With the addition of this material from Boojum Research to the Database, the Desmarais Library collection on mining and the environment will become one of the outstanding research collections on this topic.  In keeping with the objectives of the MERLIN initiative, as described by Glen Kelly in a recent paper presented at Sudbury 2007, the Database will also be significantly enhancing its holdings for the grey literature on mining by the addition of many out-of-print conference proceedings.

The Database will be creating entries for each paper in the donated Boojum conferences.
