On Sunday March 27th, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science will host the local Kangaroo Math Contest.
"The 2011 Math Kangaroo contest, an international contest for students in grades 3-12, will take place on Sunday, March 27, 2011. The main purpose of this competition is to introduce participants to math challenges in an enjoyable way, thus, inspiring their further interest and advancement in mathematics."

Thesis Information Session / Séance d'information pour thèse
On Wednesday March 23rd (2:30 p.m., FA358) we will be holding a brief information session for students who are considering an undergraduate thesis or project in either MATH or COSC during their fourth year. Students from all years of study are welcome. Topics to be discussed include:
-What is a 4th year thesis or project?
-How much work is involved?
-What type of work or topic can I choose?
-What are the benefits of a 4th year thesis or project?
Hopefully this information will help you to decide if a thesis or project is the right option for you.

On Friday December 10th the department will host students from several local and area high schools. The students will be invited to participate in hands-on activities that highlight the dynamic nature of mathematics and computer science.
This special event is part of the department's efforts to increase awareness in computer science as a subject of post secondary study and the related career options. We are proud to be part of the nation-wide Computer Science Education Week 2010.

Department Faculty Member Earns 2010 Teaching Excellence Award
On Wednesday November 24th, Laurentian University recognized the outstanding efforts of Dr. Youssou Gningue by presenting him with the 2010 Teaching Excellence Award. Through his teaching, research and community involvement Dr. Gningue has earned the admiration of his students, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and of the greater university community.
Congratulations et félicitations Dr. Gningue!

Department Teams Participate in 6th Annual FLL Tournament
On Saturday November 22nd two department-sponsored teams participated in the 6th annual Science North First Lego League tournament held at Dynamic Earth. Both teams competed with gracious professionalism within the 9 team field. Team Eye Robot earned the Teamwork Award and The Legonauts earned the presitguous Robotics Design Award. Congratulations to all of the team members, coaches, mentors and volunteers that made the event a success.
