The Mrs. Dominga De la Riva Memorial Scholarships (2)
Established by her daughter to honour the memory of the late Mrs. Dominga De la Riva, an outstanding mother, admired and cherished for her ability to reflect warmth and friendship to all she knew. She was born in Spain and raised two children through the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and the postwar period. When her children immigrated to Canada, she did not hesitate to leave the country she loved so much.

Value: $500/ea. Recipients: full-time students entering the 3rd or 4th year of Modern Languages and Literatures, Spanish program. Selection is based on academic standing (min. 75%) and financial need. Application required.

The Anna Leone Taverna Memorial Scholarship: $450 Established by the Taverna family and former pupils to commemorate Mrs. Anna Leone Taverna's keen interest in and love for education. She loved all children and taught Italian language and culture for more than 25 years. Value: $450. Recipient: a full-time student entering the 2nd year of the Italian studies degree program who achieved the highest academic standing in their first Italian course of the previous year. Selection is made on the recommendation of the Italian studies program coordinator. Application required.

The Del Frate Family Bursaries (3)
Value: $1,000/ea. Recipients: full-time students, on the basis of financial need and Ontario residency, as defined by OSAP. Preference is given to students enrolled in any year of the Italian Studies program. Application required.

The Colilli Family bursary
Donated by Diana and Paul Colilli, Professors in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures.

Value: $500. Recipient: a full-time student entering any year of the Italian Studies degree program, on the basis of financial need and Ontario residency as defined by OSAP. Application required.

The Austrian Book Prize
A gift from the Austrian Embassy.

Recipient: the graduating student who has obtained the best grades in German, as selected by the German section of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures.

The Incontri Book Prize
Awarded annually by Incontri, Laurentian University Italian Club.

Recipient: a full-time student entering the 2nd year of the Italian Studies program who achieved the highest academic standing in their first Italian course in the previous year. Selection is made on the recommendation of the Italian Studies coordinator.

The Aurelio Taricani Memorial Bursary
Established by Bruno and Nellie Marcolini.

Value: Variable.  Recipient: The Aurelio Taricani Memorial Bursary is awarded to a student in any year of the Italian Studies degree program, who can demonstrate financial need, and is a resident of Ontario, as defined by OSAP.  Application is required.

The Masha Krupenich/Frosia Izhikova Award in Modern Languages
Established in 2001 by Maria Krupp in memory of Masha Krupenich and Frosia Izhikova.

Value: $1,500.  Recipient: a student enrolled in any year of any program offered by the Department of Modern Languages and Literature, on the basis of academic standing and financial need.  Application required.

Società Caruso Italian Cultural Scholarship: $475
Donated by the Culture and Education Committee of the Società Caruso, a scholarship valued at $475 awarded to full-time student entering the upper years of the Italian Studies degree program who has achieved the highest academic standing in the Italian courses of the previous years.  Selection is made on recommendation of the Italian Studies program coordinator.

The Laurentian University Incontri Italian Club Scholarship: $250
Donated by the Laurentian University Incontri Italian Club.  Value: $250.  Recipient: A full-time student in any year of the Italian Studies Program, who has achieved the highest academic standing in the Italian courses of the previous year.  Recipients must be active members of the Incontri Italian Club.  Students not majoring in Italian Studies who can clearly demonstrate their participation in the Italian community at Laurentian University and have achieved the highest academic standing in their previous courses at Laurentian are also invited to apply.  Selection is made on the recommendation of the Italian Studies program coordinator in consultation with the Incontri Italian Club executive.  Application for In-Course Awards required.

Sudbury Spanish-American Association Scholarship 
This Scholarship of $250 is awarded by the Sudbury Spanish-American Association to recognize the hard work and dedication of a student who is studying Spanish language and literature.

The scholarship will be awarded to the student enrolled in a degree program in Hispanic Studies who has most improved her or his average in Hispanic Studies courses from second year to third year.

 

The applicant must have completed the third year of one of the following 4-year degree programs in Hispanic Studies: Single Specialization in Spanish, Double Specialization in Spanish (first language) and Italian (second language), Combined Specialization in Spanish and another discipline.

 

An application is required.
