Ian Gibson recently graduated from the University of Toronto where he earned Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Percussion Performance. While there he studied with members of the renowned percussion ensemble Nexus and gained the distinction of being the first Canadian to win both the Canadian Percussive Art Society (Sabian) and Avedis Zildjian Percussion Scholarships.

Ian has played with many orchestras in southern Ontario, and has frequently appeared with the Niagara Symphony. He has performed onstage with Sir Paul McCartney at the Air Canada Centre and at Carnegie Hall with the Peel Regional Police Pipe Band. In 2002 he performed with Nexus at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention and the Drummers' Heritage Concert in Columbus, Ohio.

Ian is much in demand as a pipe band workshop instructor throughout Ontario and the U.S. He also is the Bass & Tenor representative on the Pipers & Pipe Band Society of Ontario Music Board, and was recently commissioned to write the Massed Band Bass & Tenor Scores that are to be implemented across the province. Ian also enjoys instructing and playing in the Bass & Tenor Section of the Toronto Police Pipe Band.
