PhD Application Instructions

Applications for the PhD program must fulfill both the General Requirements for Graduate Applications and some additional Specific Requirements for Rural and Northern Health PhD Applications.  All of the information must be compiled and submitted to the Laurentian University Admissions Office (including a printed copy of the on-line application). 

The deadline for applications is January 31st.

 

In addition to submitting your application to the Admissions Office, please also send one complete copy of all material of your application package to Carole Lafontaine at the School of Rural and Northern Health by January 31st.  Remember to request two copies of your transcripts and references well in advance of the deadline.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATE APPLICATIONS:

Ø      Application Fee payment

Ø      Official Academic Transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended

  • Each in a sealed envelop from the Institution 

Ø      3 Letters of Reference (including the Referee Form which will be found when you apply on-line after you have created an account):

  •  1 academic
  • 1 employment/professional
  •  1 other referee (preferably an academic reference)

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR RURAL AND NORTHERN HEALTH PHD APPLICATIONS:

All applicants are encouraged to contact a potential supervisor before applying.  The supervisor can provide guidance on the application process, the proposed program of research and is required to sign the Supplementary Application form to confirm their review of your application and commitment to supervise.

Ø      Curriculum Vitae

o        Must include: academic training/previous degrees, honors and awards, publications, grants (if applicable), relevant employment experience, languages written/spoken/understood, professional/community services

Ø      Personal Statement

o        Summarize previous academic training and work experience as they relate to this application, provide a justification enrolling in this PhD program at this time, explain the choice of supervisor, and their future career path.

o        Must not exceed 500 words [1]

 

Ø      Proposed Research Program Description

o        Outline proposed area(s) of research for their thesis, articulate the rational for the thesis project, and include a draft of the proposed methods.

 

o        Must not exceed not 1,000 words [2]

Ø      One publication or other written work on which the applicant was the   principal author.

Note:  All short-listed applicants will be required to attend an in-person interview (or teleconference meeting for those who are unable to attend in person).
