Nancy L. Young, PhD

Professor and Canada Research Chair

Dr. Nancy Young is a clinical epidemiologist who holds a Canada Research Chair in Rural and Northern Children’s Health. She is actively engaged in the training of graduate students via: the delivery of courses; thesis supervision; and mentorship.  Her research focuses on children’s health and well being, with an emphasis on children who face unique health challenges due to geography and/or disability.  Dr. Young’s research is multi-disciplinary and uses a variety of methods including: survey research; health services research; and qualitative research.  She is recognized for developing child-centric research methods, including the Activities Scale for Kids (ASK), and cross-cultural adaptation of child-centric measures for use internationally.  Dr. Young's recent research projects include: evaluating the validity of child health indicators in rural and northern regions; and cross-cultural adaptation of measures in Brazil, China and The Netherlands.  The results of this research are widely disseminated locally, nationally and internationally.   Dr. Young's research bridges academic and community-based research, to improve the lives of our children.
