Work Study Program 2011-2012

The Work Study Program (WSP) is an initiative created to create jobs on campus for students in financial need. It provides a 75% FUNDING of the student's total salary (including benefits).

Work Study Program salaries start at a minimum of $12.00/hour

Students can work from 5 to 15 hours per week

Maximum earnings including benefits are $2000 or $1000 for one term

Do All Students Qualify for WSP?

NO. Its emphasis is to create on-campus employment for students who demonstrate a financial need. (Not only for OSAP students)

Can All Employers participate in this Plan?

All on-campus departments and student associations can participate in the program as long as they can prove they can pay 25% of the salary including benefits.

What  Are The Procedures?

In order to participate in the Work Study program, one must submit a special job application request form to the Work Study Coordinator at The Student Employment Centre, every year Job proposal forms can be obtained on our website at: www.careerandemploymentcentre.laurentian.ca.(Submission of a proposal does not guarantee funding)

The Student Employment Centre will advise employers in writing once the request to hire a student has been approved.

The Student Awards Office will identify which students qualify for WS.

All eligible students will be registered with The Student Employment Centre.

You will be sent a form letting you know if your project and your student have been approved.

Students will be screened by The Student Employment Centre and applications sent to the employer so that they can set up their own interviews. The employer must advise The Student Employment Centre of the chosen candidate.

How Can Students Apply?

Pick up an application at The Student Employment Centre or the Student Awards Office and ask for a Work Study Application. Return the form to the Student Awards Office and they will assess your eligibility. When you have been accepted in the program, drop off an updated résumé with the Work Study Coordinator at The Student Employment Centre. If you have previously participated in the Work Study Program you must reapply.

Students are required to apply and be approved for Work-Study through the Office of Student Award

An approved Work Study application does not guarantee that a student will obtain employment. Students must apply for WS jobs and meet the job expectations and requirements as established by individual employers.

Students MAY NOT apply or accept a position prior to approval.

Students are not to start work until all paperwork has been completed

Prior to beginning the student's employment, the employers must sign a WSP contract and then, part of the salary will be transferred  to the employer's budget. The employer's department will be responsible for payroll activities.
