What Can I Do With A Degree In Chemistryor Biochemistry?



The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers four year undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Science in either Chemistry or Biochemistry.  Further, there is a Pharmaceutical option available.  The Department also extends graduate studies leading to a Masters in Chemical Sciences.  Students experience small class sizes and exposure to a dynamic team of researchers, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students involved in cutting-edge research.  Some courses are offered in French.  Please see the department link below for further information on programs and course descriptions.

Depending on the avenue of specialization graduates can expect to work in government and industry in areas like research, health care, education, quality control, and consulting.  Laurentian graduates have found careers in medicine, mining, research, analysis (organic, inorganic), teaching, professorship and more.

Work prospects

Laurentian graduates of the physical sciences have a 100% employment rate six months after entry into the work force.  In Canada the average yearly earnings for those with a Chemistry degree is approximately $32,900.  However pay varies greatly with location, specialization and level of experience.  Job satisfaction among graduates is roughly 95%, while 64% would choose to make the same educational choice again.

Work prospects are fair.  Competition among new graduates is expected to be average with a majority of occupations to be found as physical science professionals, teachers, and professors.
