What Can I Do With A Degree In Kinesiology?



Offered by the School of Human Kinetics, this four year program leads to a Bachelor of Science degree and certification as a Kinesiologist with the Canadian Kinesiology Association.  Courses such as biomechanics, motor control, physiology, and ergonomics are designed to provide students with the scientific principles underlying kinesiology.  Practical experience is gained through required field internships and a research thesis.  Students also have the opportunity to apply their skill and gain work experience in three distinct areas of kinesiology practice; rehabilitation, ergonomics, and/or gerontology.  Please see the department link below for further details.

Skills developed:  

  • Knowledge of human movement (mechanical, neurological, structural, & functional)
  • Understanding of the scientific method through research and thesis experience
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills
  • Proficiency with modern technology in studying human movement
  • Internship and work experience
  • Experience in curriculum design and administration of health education programs
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

Areas of employment

Laurentian graduates have careers in occupational therapy, ergonomics, physiotherapy, health consultation, fitness, and more.  Many further their education in areas like medical school, chiropractics, and naturopathy.
