What Can I Do With A Degree In Music?



In conjunction with Huntington University, Laurentian offers a three and four year Bachelor of Arts degree in music, either of which may be taken as a single or combined concentration/specialization.  The four year program has history, performance, theory, education, contemporary and jazz options that may be taken, although it is not required. Completion of the option is then noted on the academic transcript.  Laurentian also offers a new Bachelor of Arts (Music)/Bachelor of Education Concurrent Program. Areas of employment

Music graduates qualify for employment in areas like performance, conducting, professional recording, education, and communications.  In Canada a majority of graduates find employment as creative and performing artists (Musician, Singer, Actor, Director), and as secondary and elementary school teachers and counselors.

Work prospects

The rate of employment for Laurentian Arts graduates is 100% two years after entry into the work force.  In Canada the average yearly earnings for those with an undergraduate degree in music is approximately $23,700.  However pay varies greatly with location, specialization, and level of experience.  Job satisfaction among graduates is roughly 77%, while 88% would choose to make the same educational choice again.

Work prospects are fair.  Competition among new graduates is expected to be average with the majority of competition coming from college graduates in the Creative and Designing Arts.
