What Can I Do With A Degree In Theatre Arts?



In Conjunction with Laurentian University, Thorneloe University offers a three year   Theatre Arts Program leading to a General Bachelor of Arts degree.  The program may be taken as a single or combined concentration.  The department also offers an interdisciplinary B.F.A. with a major in Theatre Arts, and a minor in Music or Visual Arts.  A 157 seat theatre that is fully equipped provides state of the art support for faculty and students.  A similar program is available in French (Arts d’expression.)   Please see the department links below for further details on programs and course descriptions.

Areas of employment Theatre Arts graduates find employment in areas like performing, directing, writing, creative design, and education.  In Canada a significant portion of Arts graduates become Creative Designers, Craftspersons, and Performing Artists.  Many careers are found in theatres (ex. community, commercial, summer), in radio, television, and film.

Work prospects Laurentian graduates in the Arts have a 100% employment rate two years after entry into the work force.  In Canada the average yearly earnings for those with a fine arts degree is approximately $28,100.  However salaries vary significantly according to area of specialization, location, and general work experience.  Approximately 85% of graduates claim job satisfaction, while 82% would choose to make the same educational choice again.  

Work prospects are fair.  Competition among new graduates is expected to be average with the majority of competition coming from college graduates in Creative and Design arts.
