What to do with a degree in Political Science?

Because our students acquire a thorough knowledge of political science and the skills to conduct research and analysis, they can undertake a career work in various fields.

Many of our graduates work for the federal or provincial governments. Others are working for municipalities or school boards. Others are employed in the private sector (banks, companies, law offices, etc.) or have chosen to open their own consulting firms.

Here are some typical jobs opened to graduates in Political Science:

  • Lawyer
  • Journalist
  • Administrator/Manager in the public sector
  • Manager in the private sector
  • Police Officer (Regional/Municipal Police, RCMP, OPP)
  • Teacher
  • Public Servant at the international level (United Nations, UNESCO, etc.)
  • Lobbyist
  • Corporate or financial analyst
  • Public Relations in the Canadian Armed Forces
  • Public Relations in the private sector

Our graduates in Political Science are also successfully engaged in subsequent programs in M.A. in Political Science, in MBA or in Law.


What to do with an Honours B.A. in Public Administration

The Honours B.A. in Public Administration provides students with necessary skills and effective communication techniques as well as a solid academic background in the discipline. Students learn to think strategically by applying policy and by taking a managerial perspective. They are directly involved in practical, problem-solving research projects that are suggested by public officials from all levels of government.

Since civil services in Canada and Ontario are going to hire more than 12,000 new staff a year, graduates are well positioned to find challenging career opportunities within the public sector. They will also be able to compete for career work within the private sector.
