Minoring in Psychology

MINORING IN PSYCHOLOGY

 

 

            Students may receive either a general minor or an experimental minor in psychology.  Both minors require the completion of 24 credits in psychology with at least 6 credits at the 3000/4000 level.

 

 

General Minor

            For students who would like to take some additional courses in psychology for interest, it is recommended that you complete a General Minor.  You would be required to take PSYC 1105, STAT 2126, 9 credits from Group 1 (including the following courses and an additional 6 credits in psychology.

 

PSYC 2005E   Developmental Psychology (6 cr)–prerequisite is PSYC 1105

PSYC 2706E   Emotion (3 cr) – prerequisite is PSYC 1105

PSYC2707E    Motivation (3 cr) – prerequisite is PSYC 1105

PSYC3005E    Personality & Adjustment I (6 cr)–prerequisite is PSYC 1105

PSYC3605E    Psychopathology (6 cr) – prerequisite is PSYC 1105

PSYC3805E    Social Psychology (6 cr) – prerequisite is PSYC 1105 & 6 credits in PSYC

 

 

Experimental Minor

            For students who are particularly interested in psychological research, it is recommended that you do an Experimental Minor.  You would be required to take PSYC 1105, STAT 2126, PSYC 2127, 9 credits from Group 2 including the following courses and an additional 3 credits in Psychology.

 

PSYC 2606E   Brain & Behaviour (3 cr) – prerequisite is PSYC 1105 or 1st year science

PSYC 2617E   Human Neuropsychology (3 cr) – prerequisite is PSYC 2606

PSYC 2656E   Physiological Psychology (3 cr) – prerequisite is PSYC 1105

PSYC 2905 E  Receptor Processes & Perception (6 cr) – prerequisite is PSYC 1105

PSYC 2917 E  Sensation and Perception (3 cr) – prerequisite is PSYC 2606 or PSYC 2656

PSYC 3106 E  Evolutionary Psychology (3 cr)

PSYC 3306E   Learning (3 cr) – prerequisite is PSYC 1105 & 6 credits in PSYC

PSYC 3307E   Laboratory in Learning & Memory (3 cr) – prerequisites are PSYC 3306 & PSYC 2127

PSYC 3506E   Neuropharmacology (3 cr) – prerequisites are PSYC 2606 & PSYC 2617

PSYC 3507E   Behavioural Neurobiology (3 cr) – prerequisites are PSYC 2606, BIOL 1700 [Structure & Function of the Human Body] or BIOL 1506 [Biology I] and BIOL 1507 [Biology II)

PSYC 3706E   Topics in Cognitive Psychology (3 cr) – prerequisite is PSYC1105 & 6 credits in PSYC

PSYC 3707E   Laboratory in Cognitive Psychology (3 cr) – prerequisite is PSYC 3706

PSYC 3757 E  Sleep and Dreaming (3 cr) – prerequisite is PSYC 2606 or PSYC 2656
