ðAcademic Regulations

ðProfessional Suitability Policy

The application package contains two parts. Part 1 contains eligibility criteria, academic rules and regulations, a raking guide to the personal statement and a guide to writing the personal statement. Part II is the actual application which is to be submitted for the due date. The basis of assessment is as follows. Since 2002, the application into the Native Human Services professional years consist of:

·         a personal statement which is worth 30% of the total admissions score and

·         calculation of academic grades for the first year requirements is worth 70% of the total admissions score.

It is the responsibility of the Office of Admissions to calculate the applicant scores with the student grades. The University Admissions officer in turn calculates the academic score once all grades are submitted to the registrar. Then a ranked student sheet is forwarded to the Access Supervisor to notify the successful applicants as well as the denied applications. This occurs in mid-June of each year. Once the offer of acceptance is received an individual Plan of Study is developed and sent or given to the student to keep track of their progress.

All Native Human Services students are required to sign a Declaration Form which is also in the Package. The form outlines the requirements for practice. This includes sections such as adhering to the Code of Ethics, Professional Suitability and Criminal Reference Checks. Also since 2003, Native Human Services has added an extra section on the Declaration Form for DE students in which they are asked to sign a declaration that they understand that the DE courses are part-time.
