Anne-Marie Mawhiney, a graduate of Laurentian University, has taught in the School of Social Work at Laurentian University since 1980. In July 2002 she was appointed as Dean of the Faculty of Professional Schools. Anne-Marie stays active in the School by supervising graduate thesis on topics that are related to her academic interests.
Anne-Marie has lived in Northeastern Ontario for most of her life and enjoys the outdoor activities that are part of the Northern Experience, including cross-country skiing, canoeing, swimming, and taking long walks in the bush. In 1992 she coxed a masters coxed four that won the gold medal at the Henley in St-Catherines, Ontario.
Anne-Marie's academic interests are closely tied to her northern experiences. These interests are connected through a population health framework and include: cross cultural education with Franco-Ontarians and Aboriginal peoples; community-based and cross-cultural research; effects of mass layoffs on women and families; Aboriginal policy; children's mental health; and social justice.
