The Master of Arts in Sociology - Applied Social Research develops the student’s expertise in four areas: community needs assessment, socio-political impact assessment; local and regional community development studies and social policy analysis. Graduates are prepared for positions in governmental and community research and for continuance in doctoral programs. On-line Application Form 

Once you have completed your on-line application, mail or courrier the application and all required documents listed below to The Office of Admissions, Laurentian University, Sudbury, Ontario, Sudbury, Ontario, P3E 2C6.

 

l.       an official transcript of all university studies completed (in separate sealed envelopes).  An official document is an original or notarized copy.  Photocopies or faxed documents are not acceptable.  Graduates of Laurentian University are not required to submit a transcript from Laurentian University;

2.     three (3) Appraisal Forms from referees who are familiar with your work (in separate, sealed envelopes). Two of which must be academic referees;

3.     a letter containing a statement of your research interests;

4.     example of recent written work;

5.     proof of language proficiency for Non-Canadian applicants whose mother tongue is neither English nor French;

Important Information for International Students

Fee waivers

It has been agreed that each programme will be permitted to enroll one International student who will pay the domestic fee.  The student chosen must satisfy the following criteria:

Have good grades an excellent research potential.  Should show the greatest potential for academic achievement when compared with other International students applying to the programme.

The judgments are to be made by the programme coordinator and be approved by the Director of Graduate Studies and Research.  These awards are renewable for a second year (subject to satisfactory performance).  Each programme may have only one such student enrolled at any one time.
