BURSARIES

LABOUR STUDIES

Students must submit completed bursary application forms to the Student Awards Office, 1st floor, R.D. Parker Building. A Bursary application forms can be printed using Adobe Acrobat.  Unless otherwise, specified, only one bursary application forms is required for all bursaries.

The Elmer McVey Bursary

  • Requirements: Established to honour Elmer McVey. The “Elmer McVey Bursary” is awarded to a full or part-time student in the Labour Studies program, must belong to or belonged to a trade union affiliated to the Canadian Labour Congress; or the connection can be the current or former involvement of a member of their immediate family or must show a demonstration of participation in labour and/or community activism promoting the values of the labour movement and demonstrate financial need. Application is required. The faculty of the Labour Studies program makes the selection
  • Value: $500

United Steelworkers of America Bursary

  • Requirements:  A full-time student entering the 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of the Labour Studies program.  Selection is based on financial need and Ontario residency, as defined by OSAP.  Application required.
  • Value: variable

The John Filo Bursary

  • Requirements:  A full or part-time student in the Labour Studies program, must demonstrate financial need.  Application is required. The faculty of the Labour Studies program makes the selection.
  • Value of the award is $500.

The Evelyn Ham/LUSU Memorial Bursary

  • Requirements:  A full-time female student entering the 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of the Labour Studies program, or any program or course dealing with labour relations. Selection is based on financial need and Ontario residency, as defined by OSAP. Application required.
  • Value:  variable

United Steelworkers of America Bursary

  • Requirements: “United Steelworkers of America Bursary”. Established by United Steelworkers of America, this bursary is awarded to a Laurentian University student enrolled in the Labour Studies program.  The bursary is awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, and Ontario residency as defined by OSAP.  Application is required.
  • Value: variable

Wally Majesky Award

  • Requirements: Established to honour Wally Majesky by the Workers Health and Safety Centre. The recipient must be enrolled in the Labour Studies program, have good academic standing and demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to a student who has demonstrated leadership in the social justice movement.  Application is required.
