BURSARIES

COMMERCE

Students must submit completed bursary application forms to the Student Awards Office, 1st floor, R.D. Parker Building. A Bursary application forms can be printed using Adobe Acrobat.  Unless otherwise, specified, only one bursary application forms is required for all bursaries.

The Bank of Montreal Bursaries (6)

  • Requirements: Full-time students entering any year of the Commerce program, specialized program in Economics, or the Master of Business Administration, on the basis of financial need and Ontario residency as defined by OSAP. Application required.
  • Value: $1,000/ea

The KPMG Chartered Accountants Bursaries (2)

  • Requirements: Students entering the upper-years of the Commerce program who intend to pursue, after graduation, the program by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. Selection is based on demonstrated financial need, academic standing and Ontario residency (as defined by OSAP), and is made on the recommendation of the School of Commerce and Administration. Application required.

The Caisses populaires de l'Ontario Bursaries

  • Requirements: Full-time students entering any year of the francophone Commerce program (administration des coopératives), on the basis of demonstrated financial need and Ontario residency, as defined by OSAP. Application required.
  • Value: $600/ea

Royal Bank of Canada Bursaries (5)

  • Requirements: Students enrolled in any year of the Commerce program, the specialized program in Economics, or the Master of Business Administration, on the basis of financial need and Ontario residency as defined by OSAP. Application required.
  • Value: $600/ea

The Ben Cameron Bursary (2)

  • Requirements: full-time students enrolled in the Commerce program (one student who has a min. 75% average in COMM 2045, and one student who has completed at least 30 credits with a min. 70% average and no failed courses.) Based on financial need and Ontario residency as defined by OSAP. Application required.  Created by the Academic Council of the School of Commerce and Administration in honour of Ben Cameron, the school's first Emeritus Professor.

The CCH Canadian Limited Bursaries (2)

  • Requirements: Native students in the 4th year of the Commerce program enrolled in the Corporate Taxation and/or Personal Taxation course. If no students qualify, then the bursaries shall be awarded in this order of preference: (1) to a Native student in 4th-year Commerce; (2) to a Native student in 3rd-year Commerce; (3) to a student entering the 3rd or 4th year of the Commerce program. Based on financial need and Ontario residency, as defined by OSAP. Application required.

The Club Montessori/Laurentian Bursary

  • Requirements: A full-time student entering the 1st year of the Commerce program and taking a Humanities elective. Selection is based on academic standing financial need, and Ontario residency as defined by OSAP. Application required.

The Nesbitt Burns Bursaries (4)

  • Requirements: Students entering any year of the Commerce program, the specialized program in Economics or the Master of Business Administration, on the basis of financial need and Ontario residency, as defined by OSAP. Application required.

The Allan and William Goring Memorial Bursary

  • Requirements: A full-time student entering the 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of the Commerce program or a program at Thorneloe University. Applicants must have demonstrated academic improvement from year-to-year, have financial need and be residents of Ontario as defined by OSAP. Application required. Established by the Goring Family.

The Vito Ranieri Bursary

  • Requirements: Established by family and friends, the Vito Ranieri Bursary is awarded to a full-time student in any year of the Commerce program on the basis of financial need. Application is required.

The PricewaterhouseCoopers Bursary

  • Requirements: Established by PricewaterhouseCoopers, the “PricewaterhouseCoopers Bursary” is awarded to a student enrolled in the School of Commerce and Administration, who has achieved academic excellence in a third-year Accounting course, can demonstrate financial need, and is a resident on Ontario, as defined by OSAP. Application is required.

The Carolyn Donison Memorial Bursary

  • Requirements: Donated by Dave, family and friends, a bursary awarded to a full-time student in any year of the Commerce program. The recipient must be able to demonstrate financial need and is a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP. Application is required.

Dr. Tuan Ton-That Memorial Bursaries

  • Requirements: Established to honour Tuan Ton-That by his family and friends. The “Dr. Tuan Ton-That Memorial Bursaries” are awarded annually to one full time student in each of the following programs; Economics, Commerce, and Music or Physics. Bilingualism in French and English is a plus but not a requirement. The student must demonstrate financial need, and Ontario residency, as defined by OSAP.  Application is required.

The SGA Capital Campaign Bursaries

  • Requirements: Students who are SGA members, Ontario residents as defined by OSAP, have financial need, are active in extracurricular activities and meet the other criteria specified below. Students must submit a short statement outlining how they meet criteria. Application required. Donated by the SGA to the University's Capital Fundraising Campaign (1997), the following bursaries are awarded annually

The Tannys Laughren Vice-President's Award - other criteria: interest in commerce or enrolment in Commerce program.

Commerce/SPAD ’80 Bursary

  • Requirements: Established by the 1980 graduating class of the Bachelor of Commerce and Sports Administration Degrees this is awarded to aid a student of the Laurentian University, who is enrolled in either of these programs.  Application is required.
  • Value: $500

The Bill Wilson Memorial PMAC Bursary 

  • Requirements: Established by the Purchasing Management Association of Canada, this bursary is awarded to aid a full-time student in the 3rd year Commerce program at Laurentian University on the basis of financial need. The recipient must be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.  Preference will be given to a student who has an interest in procurement.  Application is required and students must attach a letter expressing why they are interested in a career in procurement.

Richard Pound SPAD Bursary

  • Requirements: “Richard Pound SPAD Bursary”. Established by alumni, family and friends in attendance at the SPAD 35th Reunion celebration in 2007, the Richard Pound SPAD Bursary will be awarded to a student enrolled in the 1st year of the Honours Bachelor of Commerce in Sports Administration.  Selection of the recipient is based on academic excellence (min. 80%) in an Ontario secondary school (6 best U/M courses).  The bursary will be awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, and Ontario residency as defined by OSAP.  Application is required.

Sudbury Credit Union Bursary

  • Requirements: Established by the Sudbury Credit Union, Lively Branch. The purpose of this award is to provide financial assistance to aid a student of Laurentian University from the Greater City of Sudbury area. The recipient must be a 2nd, 3rd or 4th year undergraduates enrolled in the Commerce, Economics or SPAD program. The recipient must be in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need. Application is required.
  • Value is $1,000.

 Marc St-Laurent Commerce Award

  • Requirements:  Established through planned giving, this annual award will offer financial assistance to a Francophone enrolled full-time in the 3rd or 4th year of the 4-year program of the School of Commerce and Administration. The student must have financial need, be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP and live in northern Ontario.

Peter and Shirley Moutsatsos Family Bursary
  • Requirements: Established by the Moutsatsos family. The purpose of this award is to provide financial assistance to aid a student entering any year of the Commerce program at Laurentian University. The bursary will be awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, and Ontario residency as defined by OSAP. Preference will be given to a student who has attended high school in Sudbury. Value is variable.  Application is required.

Bernie and Mary Langlois Family Bursary

  • Requirements: Established by Bernie and Mary Langlois to provide financial assistance to a student at Laurentian University. The recipient must be enrolled at the undergraduate or graduate level in the Faculty of Sciences and Engineering, Management, Medicine (registered through Laurentian University) or Architecture (once approved by LU senate). Where possible, preference will be given to a student who currently lives or previously resided in the Coniston area. If there is no qualified applicant from the Coniston area, the bursary will be awarded to a qualified student in the previously mentioned programs. The bursary will be awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, and Ontario residency as defined by OSAP. Value is variable. Application is required.
