BURSARIES

NATIVE HUMAN SERVICES

Students must submit completed bursary application forms to the Student Awards Office, 1st floor, R.D. Parker Building. A Bursary application forms can be printed using Adobe Acrobat. Unless otherwise, specified, only one bursary application forms is required for all bursaries.

RUTHCO Bursary

  • Requirements: The student recipient will have made a significant contribution to social justice issues and be studying full-time at Laurentian University with preference given to students studying women’s studies, social work, or Native human services. The student must have a 75% average, be a resident of Ontario and demonstrate financial need. Application required. The RUTHCO Bursary was established by Nancy Ruth to honour the lives and values of her Sudbury colleagues and friends, Mary Lue Hinds and Anne Cole.
  • Value: $5,000

Scotiabank Awards (3)

  • Requirements: Full-time students entering the 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of the Native Human Services rogram (preferably), with one award designated to an Aboriginal student (preferably). Selection is based on academic achievement (min. 75% average), demonstrated financial need and Ontario residency as defined by OSAP. If there are no qualified students in Native Human Services, then the awards may be given to students in any year of any program. Application required.
  • Value: $3,000/ea

Arthur and Eva Solomon Bursary

  • Requirements: Donated by the Solomon family and friends, three bursaries will be awarded to full-time Native students who are enrolled in any year of the following programs: Native Studies, Native Human Services and any other program offered through Laurentian University. These bursaries are based on financial need and Ontario residency as defined by OSAP. A bursary application is required. In memory of Arthur and Eva Solomon who helped to create both the Native Studies and the Native Human Services programs at Laurentian University.
  • Value: $400

M’naagaa Eskoonwejig – Celebrating Our Student Scholarship

  • Requirements: Established by School of Native Human Services to aid a full time student enrolled in the School of Native Human Services program. The recipient must have completed all 2nd year requirements and have a minimum 76% cumulative average or higher. The recipient must have an 80% class attendance rate. The qualified recipient will receive the award the first week of December. Application will be available at the School of Native Human Services and must be submitted to the School of Native Human Services no later than October 15.
