ENTRANCE AWARDS - OPEN TO ANY PROGRAMS AT LAURENTIAN UNIVERSITY (SUDBURY CAMPUS)
Unless otherwise specified, applications for entrance scholarships are not required since they are awarded on academic merit. Application deadline is May 1st of each year. Not all awards need to be awarded each year. The University may withdraw any award for which, in any year, no qualified applicant is found. In order that scholarships and bursaries may be equitably distributed, the committee reserves the rights to restrict the value of scholarships that any one student may receive. The committee also avoids the awarding of multiple scholarships wherever possible. National Deans' Entrance Scholarship for Excellence
- Each scholarship also includes a mentorship with the Dean of the faculty or a distinguished faculty member selected by the dean, a guarantee of a single room in residence, and a study carrel in the Library.
- Recipient: One scholarship is awarded in each of the five areas (Humanities, Social Sciences, Professional Schools, Faculty of Management and Sciences and Engineering) to a student having achieved a minimum of 90% on her/his best six U/M courses.
- Value: Five scholarships valued at $22,000 each ($5,500 renewable for four years), are awarded annually. National Deans' Entrance Scholarship for Excellence application required. One of the five winners of a National Deans' Scholarship will be chosen to receive the Dr. Judith Woodsworth President's scholarship valued at $1000, renewable provided the recipient meets the renewal criteria for the National Deans' Entrance Scholarship for Excellence program.
- Requirements: These students must have demonstrated leadership qualities, and must have made a significant contribution to her/his school and community. To maintain this scholarship in subsequent years of the undergraduate program, the awardees will be required to maintain an 80% average or better.
L.U. Entrance Scholarships
Each newly admitted student who just graduated from full-time studies at a secondary school and meets the criteria to be an Ontario Scholar (on 6 best U/M courses) is guaranteed an entrance scholarship. The value of the scholarship is as follows:
- $14,000 ($3,500 x 4 years) with a grade average of 95-100%
- $10,000 ($2,500 x 4 years) with a grade average of 90-94.9%
- $8,000 ($2,000 x 4 years) with a grade average of 85-89.9%
- $4,500 ($1,500 year 1, $1,000 years 2, 3, 4) with a grade average of 80 – 84.9%
To continue your scholarship at the same value, your average in subsequent years must remain within the same range as your admission average. If your average decreases, or increases in subsequent years, your award will be recalculated on the basis of the above scholarship grid.
Scholarship offers are extended on the basis of interim marks, and are renewable for a maximum of three additional years with the value in subsequent years based on the above grid. Application is not required. For further information, please read the "Scholarship Fact Sheet".
Concours provincial de français Entrance Prizes
- Recipient: The top two contestants in the Concours provincial de français secondary school language contest, enrolled in the 1st year of any program.
- Value: tuition fees.

- Recipient: The top two contestants in the Concours de français - langue seconde secondary school language contest, enrolled in the 1st year of any program.

LUAA-Alumni Association Endowment Scholarship
- Recipient: a full-time student entering the 1st year of any program, with a min. 70% average in a secondary school.
- Value: $2,500.
- Student must not be in receipt of any other awards from the University.
Anne Crichton-George Scholarships
- Established in 1998, in memory of Anne Crichton-George and her active involvement in Chapleau Ontario. Recipient: A full-time 1st-year students from Chapleau, Ont. enrolled in any program (if there is no qualified applicant from Chapleau, the award may be given to a student from Northeastern Ontario). Renewable in subsequent years with acceptable academic standing. Students may receive this award in addition to other University financial aid.

Horace J. Fraser Scholarship
- A gift from Mrs. Catherine Fraser in memory of her late husband, Horace J. Fraser, former President of Falconbridge Nickel Mines Ltd., esteemed member of the University's Board of Governors from 1960-1969 and Chair of the Board from 1965-1969.
- Recipient: a full-time student entering the 1st year of any program, with a min.
- Value: $2,000
- 80% average in an Ontario secondary school (in six U/M courses).
Dowling Horseshoe Club Bursary
- A gift from the Dowling Horseshoe Club in recognition of the financial needs of students. The Club, founded in 1969, provided residents with an enjoyable competitive setting and contributed to the social fabric of the Dowling community for over 25 years.
- Recipient: A full-time student from the Sudbury area (preferably a resident of Dowling) entering the 1st year of study.
- Value: $1,500

- Student must demonstrate the basis of financial need.
Gerald (KStJ) and Marguerite Lougheed Scholarship
- The Lougheed family is recognized in the region for its philanthropic accomplishments and commitment to caring for others. This scholarship was established in this spirit and to honour Gerry Lougheed Senior's Knighthood in the Order of St. John by Governor General Ray Hnatyshyn in 1990.
- Recipient: A resident of the City of Greater Sudbury who has attained a min. 80% average in the secondary school examinations. A recommendation from the head of the Department of English or Français of their secondary school stating that he or she has demonstrated excellent literacy skills.
- Value: $1,200

Laurentian University Entrance Financial Need Bursaries
- Bursaries are non-repayable awards offered to students who demonstrate financial need.
- Value: $600 to $1,000

- Requirements: Eligibility is based on financial need.
Frank S. Ressel Memorial Scholarships
- Established in 1990 by the late Frank S. Ressel of Sudbury.
- Recipients: 1st-year students enrolled in any undergraduate program on the basis of academic standing in an Ontario secondary school (in six U/M courses).
- Value: $1,000/ea.

Leadership Awards Program
- Recipient: 1st-year students in any program who exemplify strong leadership potential and good citizenship, and who have contributed in a positive way to making their school and community a better place.
- Value: $1,000
- Application for Leadership Awards Program required.
- Requirements: Candidates must be nominated by the principal or head of guidance at their secondary school, and must register as full-time students (Sudbury campus) in the year they are selected to receive the award. Each school may nominate only one student.
L.U. 35th Anniversary Scholarships
- Recipients: 1st-year students enrolled in any undergraduate program, on the basis of academic standing (min. 80%) in an Ontario secondary school (in six U/M courses).
- Value: $1,000/ea.

Mr. and Mrs. Myer Levine Scholarship
- Established by their children, to honour Mr. and Mrs. Levine. Mr. Levine (1889-1973) was a local businessman and founder of Levine's Ladies Wear in Sudbury.
- Recipient: a student entering the 1st year at University College. The applicant must have obtained a min. 75% average in a secondary school in Sudbury (in six U/M course) or the equivalent
- Value: $1,000
- Requirements: Student must demonstrate financial need, and not be in receipt of another major award. Student must choose University College as colligate choice.
R.J. Askin Memorial Scholarship
- Donated by Abitibi-Price Inc. (Toronto), in memory of the late Robert J. Askin, a former Governor of the University and a member of the Board from its inception until his death in 1961. Mr. Askin demonstrated a keen interest in the affairs of the University and contributed greatly to engineering.
- Recipient: a 1st-year student enrolled in any program, on the basis of academic excellence in an Ontario secondary school (in six U/M courses).
- Value: $700
Sid Forster Memorial Award
- Established by family and friends of the late Sidney Clair "Sid" Forster as a tribute to his dedication and commitment to his family and community.
- Recipient: A 1st-year student enrolled in any undergraduate program who demonstrated the greatest improvement in academic standing in secondary school studies. Student must have made a contribution to his/her school or community. Preference is given to students of the City of Greater Sudbury area and as well must demonstrate financial need.

- Value: 5% of the endowment ($825)
- Requirements: Recommendation of a high school guidance counselor is required.
Association des étudiantes et étudiants francophones Scholarship
- Recipient: a full-time student, member of the AEF, enrolled in a program offered entirely in French. The student must have a min. 75% average in an Ontario secondary school (in six U/M courses), or an average of 3.0 or more at the postsecondary level, and have made a significant contribution to her or his school and community. The student must also submit a personal data sheet outlining community involvement and official course transcripts. Laurentian University Application for Entrance Awards required.

India-Canada Association of Sudbury Scholarship
- Recipient: A full-time 1st-year student enrolled in any program. He or she must have achieved a min. 80% average in an Ontario Secondary School (in six U/M courses) and outline community contributions. Preference is given to dependents of members of the India-Canada Association of Sudbury, or other East Indian culture and heritage organization that shares the association's objectives.

- Student must present a personal data sheet outlining involvement or research interests in East Indian arts, culture, history and music
L.U. French Immersion Scholarships
- Recipient: Students of Ontario secondary school French immersion programs, based on academic standing. Must take 1 (3 credit) course in french
- Value: $500/ea.

Laurentian University Faculty Association Scholarship
- Recipient: The son or daughter of a member of the CAW/Mine Mill and Smelter Workers Union, Local 598, entering the 1st year of any program with the highest overall average in the final year of secondary school.
- Value: $1500

- A high school guidance counselor must provide a recommendation.
Dr. Frank J. Clumpus Bursary Fund
- Established by family and friends to commemorate Dr. Clumpus' term as Chair of the Board of Governors (1981-1984).
- Recipient: A full-time 1st-year student from Northern Ontario and an active volunteer in their community.
- Value: variable.

- Student must demonstrate financial need.
Jacqueline Labelle Award
- Recipient: Full-time student entering the first year of any program, on the basis of academic excellence, financial need and Ontario residency as defined by OSAP. Candidates must be graduates of École secondaire catholique Horizon. Selection is made on the recommendation of the secondary school.

Dr. Judith Woodsworth President’s Scholarship
Bourse Franco

Requirements: Recipients: The Bourse Franco has been created to encourage first-year students to register in a program offered in French. Students must register in 24 credits (i.e. 80% of a full course load) in French in their first year of studies.

Laurentian University Federation Memorial Award
The award will provide full-time Laurentian students tuition for up to four years of study, and free on-campus housing in Sudbury for the first year.
To be eligible, a student must be under the age of 26, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, dependant of a Canadian Forces member killed while deployed on combat or peace support operations, and registered as a full-time undergraduate at Laurentian University in Sudbury or one of its federated universities.

Jim Fielding Memorial Bursary

Requirements: Established by his children, Norinne, Murray and Craig. Mr. Jim Fielding was born, raised and lived his life in the Sudbury area. He was proud to be a member of a large well known area family and he relished every opportunity to be in attendance at numerous family occasions. Jim held the position of Chairman of the Board of Alexander Centre Industries Ltd. (ACIL), Waters and associate companies. Further, he was elected as Director of Canadian Pacific on May 7th, 1986 and continued serving in that capacity through to his successful re-election in April 2000. He also had a passion for learning. He was highly respected in the business community, known as a caring and considerate employer who was always interested in others. This bursary was created to provide students with an opportunity to attend university and realize their fullest potential. It will be awarded to students who may have struggled academically because of financial and personal challenges that have limited their ability to concentrate on their studies. Nomination and application form is required.

Value: $60,000 - maximum of $15,000 per year and renewable for three years (equivalent to the cost of tuition, cost of residence (if applicable), Super Saver Meal Plan and cost of books and equipment).
