Sudbury-native Bruce Mau founded a design studio in Toronto in 1985, which is today one of the foremost and innovative design firms in the world: Bruce Mau Design Inc. After studying science and engineering at Laurentian University for one year, Bruce Mau immersed himself in the arts program of the Ontario College of Art & Design, but left prior to graduation to join the Fifty Fingers design group in 1980. After a brief sojourn in the UK, he returned to Toronto and became part of the founding group of Public Good Design and Communications. He left soon after to establish Bruce Mau Design Inc. and went on with a staff of brilliant thinkers to develop and design branding campaigns for Indigo Books and Roots, multi-billion marketing and communication strategies for a development project in Tokyo, Japan, and a biodiversity museum in Panama with the accomplished architect Frank Gehry. Bruce Mau believes that design helps us understand what we are doing to ourselves and to our world and that its power can be used to transform all aspects of daily life.

Originaire de Sudbury, Bruce Mau a fondé un studio de design à Toronto en 1985 qui est aujourd’hui classé parmi les firmes de création les plus avant-gardistes du monde : Bruce Mau Design Inc. Il a étudié pendant une année les sciences et le génie à l’Université Laurentienne pour s’immerger ensuite dans le programme d’arts de l’Ontario College of Art and Design. Il quitte le programme avant de recevoir son diplôme pour se joindre en 1980 au groupe de design Fifty Fingers. Après un bref séjour au Royaume-Uni, il revient à Toronto et devient membre du groupe fondateur de Public Good Design and Communications. Peu après, il prend ses distances du groupe et fonde sa compagnie Bruce Mau Design Inc. Avec son équipe de penseurs hors-pairs, il développe et crée des campagnes de marque pour Indigo Books et Roots, des stratégies de marketing et de communications de milliards de dollars pour un projet de développement à Tokyo, au Japon, et un musée de biodiversité à Panama avec l’architecte de renom Frank Gehry. Bruce Mau croit que le design peut nous aider à comprendre ce que nous nous faisons à nous-mêmes et à notre monde et que son pouvoir peut être utilisé pour transformer tous les aspects de la vie quotidienne.
