Under the multi-centered research, we plan to develop partnership agreements for the transfer of expertise. These agreements are particularly useful to accelerate the procedures for assessing applications. We are also working with some institutions with which our researchers are often in contact with.

We just added our policy online regarding the use of in class participation of students in research. We recall that this research approach is not encouraged by the TCPS and that it may be allowed with certain precautions and restrictions.

Finally, we are currently working to clarify and consolidate the status of governance for the REB at Laurentian. This work is essential to establish new ethical policies of the university ("Terms of Reference") and to prepare for the arrival of new policies for the TCPS planned for late fall 2010 - early winter 2011.

* Please remember to always use the latest version of the form by downloading it directly from the site.

The refurbishing of the ethics website is still going on. We just added a new version of the new ethics form (version 5.1). This version integrates even more interactivity with diverse sources of information such as TCPS, FAQ and flowcharts and other links of interest that will help applicants to understand the policies and requirements when they want to apply for ethics approval or when they fill out their ethics proposal. As this form will be regularly updated, before filling it out, be sure to always download the latest version from our website.

 Please also note that, after October 31st,  the Committee,  won’t accept to review proposals using the old ethics form.

*We remain open to your suggestions. Please be kind enough to report any non working links or problems with the forms and website.

The ("news") topic can now be accessed in RSS mode. This way, those who wish to be informed of the latest developments in ethics to be "real time" can do so. To do this, you must click here.

On the website, we now have PowerPoint documents to help in the general understanding of the functioning of ethics at Laurentian University; we also added operating diagrams (flowcharts) online for certain issues relating to ethics, particularly concerning secondary data, consent and if ethics approval is required.  Other documents are coming and all will eventually be related to the new ethics form.

WEBSITE RE-ORGANISATION: as you probably noticed, we have re-organized the information structure on the website to better meet the users' expectations.  Of course, this is only a beginning. Ww encourage the community to consult it regularly as we will add topics that will enrich the content with new documents, tools and useful links.

NEW ETHICS FORMS:

Ethics form: We are pleased to inform you that we now have a new online Ethics form. The form includes many links (hyperlinks) that certainly will help you better understand guidelines and ethical approaches. Of course, this new form is in its first stages and we remain open to any suggestions to improve it. Additionally, be aware that this new form is the prelude to a form to be completed directly online and on which we are already working on and plan to implement in the coming year.

Evaluation grid: We now have new evaluation grids.  You are now able to answers REB evaluators' questions and comments directly.  It will also now be possible to answer evaluators directly on the evaluation grids in the regular assessment process (in the third column of the reviewer’s grid). This will eliminate the letters including modifications.

Annual reports and modifications/extensions to proposals:  It has been updated.

Release of funds prior to ethics approval:  This form is now available in both languages and has been updated.

NEW: We have completed a "FAQs" (frequently asked questions) that will certainly help to answer many of the questions that researchers ask us.

NEW:  You can now consult the Research Ethics Board’s annual report and be informed of our activities, challenges and objectives.

Please send your proposals 14 days before the REB meeting to assure your eligibility.

*RECRUITMENT FOR THE COMMITTEE: The REB is always looking for new members to ensure the expertise and multidisciplinarity of its services. Currently, we especially need bilingual members from the following disciplines, schools and departments: The School of Human Kinetics, Native Studies, Nursing and Philosophy. Send your CV and a letter of intent to Jean Dragon, Ph.D. (jdragon@laurentian.ca) Ethics Officer.

* Tip(s) of the month:
