Cardiac Care on the Web

Distance Education

This initiative is an opportunity for registered nurses to achieve specialty training, prepare for accreditation opportunities, and acquire university-level credits with Laurentian University's Post-RN degree program. Including twelve (12) stand alone one-credit courses, this learning experience is web-based and facilitates independent learning.

 

Course Descriptions

NURS 2308 - Philosophy of Cardiac Nursing

This course outlines Laurentian University's philosophy of nursing as it pertains to cardiac nursing.

 

NURS 2318 - Nursing Health Assessment of the Cardiac Client

This course addresses important health assessment and interview techniques for the cardiac client.

 

NURS 2338 - Epidemiology in Cardiac Care

Epidemiological concepts related to cardiac care are the focus of this course. Emerging trends and current geographic patterns will be examined.

 

NURS 2348 - Diagnostic Tools

This course studies the various cardiovascular diagnostic tools available to health practitioners.

 

NURS 2358 - Pharmacology in Cardiac Care

The focus of this course is the role of pharmacology in promoting and maintaining wellness for cardiovascular clients.

 

NURS 2368 - Haemodynamics

Understanding haemodynamics and the care of the client requiring haemodynamic monitoring comprise the focus of this course.

 

NURS 2378 - Care of the Client with Heart Disease

This course utilizes a case study approach to facilitate understanding of the nursing care involved in caring for clients suffering from various degrees of heart disease.

 

NURS 2388 - Care of the Client with Arrhythmia

Care of clients with a variety of arrhythmias is the focus of this course. A case study approach will be utilized.

 

NURS 2398 - Care of the Client Requiring Interventions

This course focuses on health promotion and interventions as they facilitate cardiac health.

 

NURS 2408 - Care of the Client with Chronic Cardiac Problems

The complex care of the client with chronic cardiac health problems is the focus of this course.

 

NURS 2418 - Putting It All Together: Part 1

This course examines case studies involving cardiac health. The learner will be challenged to formulate therapeutic nursing interventions. Pre-requisites: NURS 2308 and four of: NURS 2318, 2338, 2348, 2358, 2368, 2378, 2388, 2398, 2408 within Cardiac Care on the Web.

 

NURS 2428 - Putting It All Together: Part 2 (Integrated Virtual Practicum)

This course examines increasingly complex case studies involving cardiac health. The learner will be challenged to utilize theory from a variety of courses as a basis for therapeutic nursing interventions. Pre-requisite: NURS 2418
