HEAD COACH - Carlo Castrechino
One of the most prolific goal scorers that Sudbury Minor Soccer has ever produced, Carlo Castrechino continued his development through his teenage years. By the age of just 15, the Sudbury native would be named Rookie of the Year in the Men’s Premier League, also walking away with the leading scorer honours.
Castrechino would move on to play at Laurentian University, suiting up with a Voyageurs team that captured the OUA championship in two of his three years of varsity soccer. Unfortunately, a torn ACL would cut short his post-secondary playing days, although it did allow for his transition into coaching.
Working alongside legendary L.U. coach Greg Zorbas, Castrechino learned a great deal. “His attention to detail really stood out”, notes the 2009 OUA East Coach of the Year. “Every practice was geared towards the team that we would play next.”
By 1999, Castrechino would be handed the reigns to a program that had enjoyed considerable success over the years, a challenge, to be sure, for the personable coach. “I find coaching much more stressful than playing”, he says with a smile.
