MUSC-1015 - Introduction to the History of Music in Western Culture (6 cr.)

MUSC-1115 - Materials of Music (6 cr.)

*MUSC-1406 - Applied Major I (3 cr.)  or MUSC-1455 - Applied Major Performance I (6 cr.)

Social Science elective (6 cr.) - See Group II below

Electives (6-9 cr.) (recommendations: music ensemble, MUSC 1411, ***science elective, second teachable subject, minor, etc. If six credits of music are taken here, subtract six credits of music electives in second, third or fourth year and replace with six credits of non-music.)

 

*Students in MUSC 1406 are strongly urged to take 3 credits of ensemble or MUSC 1411.

***Six credits of science (Group III, see below) must be taken before graduation.

MUSC-3115 - Form and Analysis or MUSC xxxx - Upper-level Music History (6 cr.)

MUSC xxxx - Music Theory at 4000 level or Music History at the 4000 level (6 cr.)

MUSC xxxx - Upper-level MUSC courses (15 cr.)

It is important to take note that:

  • Students must take a minimum of 60 music credits and a minimum of 42 credits of non-music courses. The remaining 18 credits may be either music or non-music courses.
  • Only 42 credits of first-year courses may count towards the degree.
  • Only 78 credits of music courses may count towards the degree.
  • Six credits of each of science and social science must be completed before graduation.

It is important to take note that:

  • Students may take electives in music or non-music subject areas, so long as the requirements of both majors are met. •Students must have a minimum of 42 credits in each subject area, as approved by the chair of each department.
  • Only 42 credits of first-year courses may count towards the degree.
  • Six credits of each science and social science must be completed before graduation.
  • MUSC-1455 - Applied Major Performance I & MUSC-2455 - Applied Major Performance II may be taken in lieu of 1406 & 2406 depending on the scheduling of required courses in the second Major.

Electives - Students in MUSC 1406 must take a 3 credit elective. (recommendations: ensemble credit or MUSC 1411, or a non-music elective.)
