Barrie is home to three junior or minor professional sports teams: the Barrie Colts (OHL hockey), Barrie Baycats (IBL baseball) and the Barrie Lakeshores (MSL lacrosse)

Barrie plays host to numerous festivals and community events throughout the year, including Winterfest, February Blues Festival, Jazz and Blues Festival, Barrie Film Festival, Rhythmfest, Celebrate Barrie, Kempenfest, Ribfest, Oktoberfest, and Canada Day festivities.
