March 20, 2013 – On the International Day of La Francophonie, Collège Boréal and Laurentian University reiterated their common resolve to significantly improve access to postsecondary studies in Ontario’s Francophone communities.
Starting in September 2013, graduates of Collège Boréal’s Technologie du génie chimique program (Chemical Engineering) who fulfill admission requirements will be able to register in Laurentian University’s Bachelor of Science program with a major in Chemistry and obtain recognition for credits equivalent to the two first years of this four-year program. Graduates of Laurentian University’s Bachelor of Science program with a major in Chemistry will enjoy a similar advantage, with recognition for their first two years of study applicable to Collège Boréal’s three-year Technologie du génie chimique program.
Collège Boréal’s Vice-President, Academic, Daniel Giroux, emphasizes the historic nature of this new agreement between the two institutions: “For the first time in Francophone Ontario, an articulation agreement between postsecondary institutions fully recognizes the complementarity of college and university studies. The process that was followed to analyze and evaluate our Chemistry programs has confirmed a high level of excellence recognized at the highest levels by Collège Boréal and Laurentian University.”
Laurentian University’s Vice-President, Francophone Affairs, Research and Graduate Studies, Patrice Sawyer, highlights the concrete benefits of this new articulation: “The agreement signed today optimizes the academic path for Chemistry students at Laurentian University and Collège Boréal. Students from both our institutions may now benefit from greater flexibility in their choice of university or college studies and improved recognition of their prior studies at Laurentian University or at Collège Boréal.”
Besides the advantage of providing two complementary post-secondary diplomas in a sought-after field, this new agreement provides significant savings in time and money for students who are eligible for recognition of credits for two years of studies. Since 2007, 15 articulation agreements concerning 9 baccalaureate programs have been signed between Collège Boréal and the member institutions of the Laurentian University Federation.
