April 3, 2013 –Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci announced today an investment of $320,000 in support of Laurentian University’s Professions North program.
Professions North/Nord (PNN) helps provide portfolio development and workplace communications skills training for internationally trained professionals of various fields. The program also helps professionals with accreditation and technical skills upgrading. A total of 119 clients have completed the program.
“This investment will assist internationally trained professionals in reaching their career goals by bridging the gap between education, experience, culture and employment which will assist them in reaching their full potential,” said Bartolucci.
“The Faculty of Management at Laurentian University is helping to create a promising future for Northern Ontario residents. Through Professions North, internationally trained professionals like accountants and engineers learn about job opportunities in the North and are likely to build a future in Northern Ontario,” stated Atef Shubita, Acting Project Manager, Professions North/Nord.
“The province is working to make Ontario a destination of choice to attract international professionals and build future economic links,” concluded Bartolucci. “Our economy is global in nature and we are supporting the development of our future economy by giving these professionals the tools they need to be competitive on the world’s stage.”
Professions North/Nord was created by the Faculty of Management at Laurentian University to address the need for a support program that integrates internationally-trained professionals into the workforce in Northern Ontario. Services are available in both English and French at the Sudbury, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay and Timmins service locations.
