Working in co-operation with the Accessibility Services office, the Desmarais Library provides research and library services to students with disabilities. In order to be eligible for these services, students must be registered with the Accessibility Services Office.
Library & Research Assistance
Private tours of the Desmarais Library are available by appointment for new accessibility services students who wish to familiarize themselves with the library and its services. The Accessibility Services Librarian will assist students in developing a research strategy and accessing the library's various resources. The Accessibility Services Lab, located in the Learning Commons, features assistive technologies to support students who are blind or with low vision.
Retrieval of Material
The Accessibility Services Librarian will arrange retrieval of material from the Desmarais collections for students who are unable to do it themselves. Please provide a list of titles with call numbers. Contact Desmond Maley, the Accessibility Services Librarian, for further information.
Assistance in photocopying material is available for those students who are unable to do their own. Please contact The Accessibility Services Librarian. Students must supply their own copy cards.
Requests for textbooks in alternate formats can be ordered through the Desmarais Library Such requests are sent to the W. Ross Macdonald School, Brantford, Ontario. This service is free, but is available only to students who are blind, visually impaired, or learning disabled. Considerable time is required to fulfill these requests. Students are strongly urged to initiate their requests several months prior to the beginning of classes. Certain publishers will supply alternate formats for text books. Again, please initiate requests well in advance to the beginning of classes. Contact the Accessibility Services Librarian for further information.
