A wave of change is transforming Laurentian University. And you can be part of that wave – along with the thousands of students who have driven Laurentian far above the provincial average in Fall 2013 confirmations. According to data published by the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre, confirmations are up 21 per cent for Laurentian (compared with an average increase province-wide of 2.5 per cent).
Why are so many students choosing Laurentian? The reasons are numerous, and all compelling.
This fall, we launch the first new School of Architecture in Canada in more than 40 years. Our charter class is starting studies in two renovated historic buildings at the intersection of Elm and Elgin Streets in downtown Sudbury; they represent a fresh, new creative presence in the city’s central core. These students will become part of the next generation of new Canadian architects, with a particular focus on northern and sustainable design. We are all thrilled to be witness to this important chapter in the University’s history.
At our main campus on Ramsey Lake Road, we are preparing to cheer the debut of our Women’s Voyageurs hockey team, and the re-introduction of our Men’s Voyageurs for the 2013-2014 OUA season. As well, we’ve embarked on an ambitious program of campus modernization that will see $44.6 million in upgrades and renovations to classrooms, labs, social spaces and food services over the next few years. The campus modernization program will build upon our commitment to enhancing the student experience at Laurentian this year, and for generations to come.
We’re also providing new opportunities in graduate studies, and expanding on the success of our 26 Masters and 7 PhD programs. Laurentian is introducing new graduate programs in Architecture, Indigenous Relations, Orthophonie and Sciences Infirmières. It’s part of our ongoing commitment to build on our signature strengths, while meeting the needs of students across our region.
These are a few of the reasons so many are choosing a future that begins at Laurentian. There are others: we continue to offer academic excellence, exceptional student supports, an incomparable natural environment, top-calibre faculty and research opportunities, the best class sizes and the highest post-grad employment rates in Ontario.
We hope to see you here, as part of the next wave at Laurentian University.
