These are momentous times at Laurentian. We are in the midst of an unprecedented chapter in our history.
Our new School of Architecture will welcome its first cohort of students in the fall of 2013. It will be the first new School of Architecture in Canada in more than 40 years, with a program rooted in northern, sustainable design, housed in a landmark new building in Sudbury’s downtown.
Our renowned Bharti School of Engineering is also riding a wave of momentum, with last fall’s $10 million gift from the family of Stan Bharti, Chair and CEO of merchant bank Forbes & Manhattan. The Bharti School is home to more winning teams at the Canadian Mining Games than any other university mining program in the country — eight championships to date. The University’s Mechanical Engineering program also won global recognition at the 2011 and 2012 NASA Lunabotics Competition.
You can see Laurentian’s dynamic growth in Barrie, where we are continuing to invest to meet the needs of our students there. You can also see it at our main campus on Ramsey Lake in Sudbury, where a new 236-bed residence is ready for September occupancy, and where both domestic and international enrolment has climbed steadily over the past three years.
Continuous improvement in student services and amenities is part of the game plan, and we’re bringing new food and beverage options to the main campus eatery, and adding new spaces for study, socializing and relaxing. We’re also getting ready to “drop the puck” on two brand-new varsity teams: Laurentian will have both men’s and women’s varsity hockey taking to the ice in 2013-14. And with all of this going on, we’re gaining in recognition, for our high-calibre signature programs in our specialized areas of research, like Restoration and Conservation Ecology, Natural Resources Engineering, and Rural and Northern Health, to name just a few.
Laurentian students enjoy small class sizes and numerous scholarship and bursary opportunities. Our tuition rates are very competitive while our post-graduation employment rates are among the best at 97%.
Award-winning faculty, cutting-edge programs, exceptional surroundings and an exciting vision that propels us forward: we know you’ll find your future here at Laurentian.
