Academic Programs

Program Requirements

Program requirements of the first “+1”

Students must complete 18 credits of LU courses in the fall and winter sessions (September 2013 to April 2014).

Students are also required to enroll in the non-credit Workplace Communication Skills in Canada course (COMM 0513) which runs on Friday’s beginning in October and ends mid-April each academic year.

Students, who fail a course in the first semester, must replace that course with another option in the winter session or through the online degree program options.

Students should enroll in the following courses:

COMM-1006 - Foundations of the Management of Organizations I

COMM-1007 - Foundations of the Management of Organizations II

Students who require the CGA TX1 course:

COMM-4116 - Personal Taxation - an Accounting Perspective

COMM-4117 - Corporation Taxation - An Accounting Perspective

Students who achieve a total average of 65% for both COMM 4116 and COMM 4117 will receive advanced standing for the CGA TX1 course. LU will forward a copy of the transcript to the TPEI office in Beijing.

Students who require the CGA AU2 course:

COMM-4176 - Electronic Data Processing-Auditing

Students who complete these courses will be better prepared to write the final CGA AU2 examination (no advanced standing provided in the CGA Program of Professional Studies).

Additional elective options:

COMM-4057 - The Business Environment

COMM-4076 - International Business Management

COMM-4227 - Investment Management

COMM-4237 - Administration des institutions financières

COMM-4247 - Portfolio Management

Students of the 3+1+1 program are usually registered in TX1, BC2, AU2 and FN2 while they are completing the LU first “+1” H.B.Com program. Students however, should be encouraged to focus on TX1 and BC2 ONLY as they are the only prerequisites for entry to the second “+1” (MBA program). The other CGA Program requirements can be completed once admitted to the second “+1”.

Program requirements of the second “+1” – MBA

Students following the 3+1+1 program will be required to complete courses equivalent to those in the 4+1 degree program. Students study at LU over three semesters.

The courses include:

COMM-5306 - Introduction to Marketing

COMM-5406 - Organizational Behaviour

COMM-5607 - Operations Management

COMM-5307 - Introduction to Marketing Management

COMM-5407 - Organizational Processes

COMM-6006 - Business Policy: Strategy Formulation

COMM-6007 - Strategy Implementation

9 credits of electives – preferably 1 in the winter semester and 2 in the spring semester

MBA graduation requirements

Students must have successfully completed 30 credits of LU courses and have achieved a 70% average.

In order to complete the MBA degree, 3+1+1 students must have successfully completed the advanced levels of the CGA Program of Professional Studies, the PACE electives (AU2, FN2) and have registered for either PA1 or PA2.
