Program requirements

The MBA program consists of 60 credits encapsulated in 20 three-credit courses. Each three credit course requires 3 hours per week of class contact over 12-13 weeks.  Classes are normally held one day per week from 4 to 7 PM or 7 to 10 PM.  Fifteen of the courses are required courses and five are elective courses. The required courses cover all functional areas of business including Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Statistics, Management Science, Operations Management, Economics and Business Strategy. Candidates may take their elective courses in Human Resource Management, Marketing, and Finance.  

 

Students who obtain advanced standing reach 20 courses through a combination of new courses and recognition of their previous university studies.

 

Students must obtain 60% or better in each MBA course, and maintain an overall average of 70% in their MBA studies.

 

Program options

ŸGeneral MBA

After completing 60 credits, including the fifteen required courses and five elective courses, a student would obtain their MBA degree.

Thesis Stream MBA

Upon successful completion of sixty credits, forty-eight of which are devoted to courses and twelve of which are applied to research, a student would obtain their Thesis Stream MBA degree. Research concentrations may be in any one of the following fields: Finance, Marketing, Organizational Behaviour, Policy, Information Systems, or Operations.

Electives (15 cr)

Five courses in the COMM 6000 series of 3 credits each. A maximum of two elective courses may also be chosen from 4000 series of 3 credits each, with permission from the MBA Coordinator.

 

Duration and Intake

All students must complete 20 semester courses that would take up to two years for a full time student. Part-time students have up to eight years to complete the program

Laurentian University’s intake is each September and the due date for Canadian and Permanent Residents to apply is May 31st. International applicants must submit their applications by March 31st.
