Overview

• Design, development, operation and management of mines and associated technology for the safe, economical extraction of valuable, mineral-bearing ore bodies

• Emphasis on underground, hard rock, metalliferous mining

• Geomechanics Research Centre, LU Mining Automation Laboratory and Deep Mining Research reflect some of the faculty research specialties, including rock mechanics, ground control, rock fragmentation and blasting, mine ventilation, equipment automation and remote operation, design and simulation techniques, financial evaluation and economic optimization

Admission Requirements

Admission requirements based on Grade 12 4U/M courses:

• 1 English

• 1 physics

• 1 chemistry

• 1 advanced functions

• 1 of: calculus and vectors, biology, earth & space science or analyzing current economic issues

• 1 other course

• Minimum average of 70%
