Cleaning

Cleaning of the washrooms in UCR is normally done each weekday. In addition, common areas in UCR are normally done Mondays and Fridays; however, residents are expected to maintain a reasonable degree of cleanliness and neatness in their living areas at all times. There are vacuums available from the R.A. for the use of UCR and SSR residents.

Mail

Mail is delivered to the RES complex each weekday and may be found in the mailbox corresponding to your room or apartment number. You will receive a key for your mailbox when you move in. Outgoing mail may be placed in the mailbox outside UCR and will be picked up by Canada Post each day at 1 p.m. Purolator and Fax service is available for SSR, UCR and MSR students only. The fax number is (705)671 3826. Your mail should be addressed as follows for residence:

Parking

Parking is available in the lot #9. You may obtain a parking card from Physical Plant and Parking (705) 673 6562 at the Maintenance and Security building. There are a limited number of spaces with plug in capability.

Porters

Porters are located in the lobby of UCR and West Residence. The main function of the porters is to provide security for the students of this complex. The UCR porter is available from 4p.m. 8a.m. weekdays and 24/7 on weekends.

Repairs

Items or places that require repair should be reported to your R.A., who will then complete a work order (available from the RES Office). Please allow time for service. In the event that a light bulb burns out in your room or apartment, simply take the burnt bulb down to a porter's desk to get a new one at no charge.

Residence Office Extras

During the academic year, the Residence Office provides a number of services and perks. The benefits include: free tickets to all home varsity games; Christmas and Volunteer dinners; a number of residence council bursaries; and the Gerry Lougheed Jr. Award. The Residence Office also hosts a number of volunteer events. In addition to all these extras, the Residence Office provides an activity fund and two free buses to each floor, and free intramural sport sponsorship. Finally, the Residence Office is one of the main employers of students on campus, hiring approximately 10% of the residents in various positions.

Safety/Security

Certain measures have been taken to help keep our residence safe and secure. Throughout the Residence complex, there are recorded video surveillance cameras. Porters do rounds throughout the buildings every two hours, and on weekend nights there is a porter in place at every entrance to monitor who comes into the buildings. As well as Porters, there are two R.A.s “In Da House” on call every weekend. They also do rounds throughout the buildings every two hours. Laurentian also offers a SafeRide program that provides a safe escort to and from anywhere on campus by a security officer.
