Game Recap:

SUDBURY, ON - The first home game of the Lady Vees season was held on Friday November 16th with the Vees going up against the #1 ranked Windsor Lancers. The Vees looked to improve on their 1-1 record which they picked up last weekend in a trip to Brock and McMaster. From the beginning the Vees found themselves battling from behind and eventually came up short dropping the game 83-59.

The Lancers led the game from the tip off leading 24-10 after the first quarter. They continued their strong play and were able to put up 31 points in the third quarter alone. The Voyageurs showed a strong offensive presence in the fourth quarter by racking up 25 points.

The Lancers were lead offensively by fourth year student Miah-Marie Langlois (Windsor, ON) who scored 18 points along with 8 rebounds. The Lancers however did not need help spreading the scoring by having 5 different players scoring in double digits. The Vees were led both offensively and defensively by Richmond, BC native Sasha Polishchuk. Polishchuck totalled a game high of 40 minutes played to accompany a game high 26 points as well as 9 assists and 3 rebounds. The Lady Vees struggled from the free throw line by shooting a combined 50% throughout the game.

When asked about the game, the Lady Vees head coach Mike Clarke mentioned “We played with passion in the fourth quarter which is encouraging but we must be ready to play 4 quarters throughout the game.” He also stated that the conditioning of Polishchuck is incredible and her dynamic play will definitely help out the Vees throughout the season.

The Vees will look to bounce back from this loss tomorrow as they go up against the 1-1 Western Mustangs. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 pm in the Ben Avery Gym on the Laurentian University campus.
