GUELPH, ON – After a tough loss at the hands of the Lakehead Thunderwolves, the Lady Vees looked to bounce back against the Guelph Gryphons. However, another slow start proved to be the difference, with the Lady Vees ending the trip with a 78-57 loss.
A slow start proved to be too much for the Lady Vees to overcome yet again. It is a problem the Vees have struggled with as of late, and the game against Guelph was no exception. The first quarter saw the Lady Vees trail by 7, but the second quarter saw the Gryphons extend this lead to 17 at the half way stage. The Vees seem to be unable to gain a foothold in the game until the second half of the games, and yet again, the Vees emerged in the second half ready to play.
The third quarter was much closer, with the Gryphons only outscoring the Vees by 3 points, but with the Vees battling harder for rebounds, and showing signs of more efficient shooting. The same was to be said about the final quarter of the game, where the Vees battled with the Gryphons well, but were unable to diminish Guelph’s expansive lead. When the final buzzer sounded, the Gryphons emerged as the victors by a score of 78-57.
Some positives from the game include the strong performance of Polischuk and Simpson, as well as the excellent play of first year Emily Tymchuk. Tymchuk played a significant part in both of the weekend’s games, helping to establish her capabilities in the team. Against the Gryphons, she accumulated 9 points and 6 rebounds, while playing just 20 minutes. This is a promising sign for the Vees, who are now looking to regather over the Christmas break and regain their early season form.
