GUELPH, ON – The Laurentian Voyageurs were unable to get back into winning ways on Saturday night, as they fell victim to a 88-78 loss against the Guelph Gryphons. The loss came despite holding a lead entering the final quarter of play, where the Voyageurs were simply outplayed by the Gryphons down the final stretch.
A high scoring first quarter saw each team accumulate, respectable point totals, with the Gryphons holding a slim 3 point lead, up by a score 26-23. The second quarter saw the Voyageurs hit back, and pull the game back to even at the half time buzzer, with the score line reading 40-40. This was familiar territory for the Voyageurs, who had found themselves tied at the interval in the previous night’s game against the Lakehead Thunderwolves.
The second half saw the Voyageurs jump out to a quick lead, outscoring the Gryphons 23-17 in the third. This was largely in part to Manny Pasquale’s 31 points on the night, which helped keep the Voyageurs in the game. However, the fourth quarter proved to be one to forget for the Voyageurs. The home team managed to score 31 points in the quarter alone, which was too much for the Voyageurs to handle. From the Gryphons team, Zachary Angus was clinical throughout the evening. He shot 100% (5-5) from the 3 point zone, and ended the evening scoring from 10 of his 13 total shot attempts, totalling 32 points.
The Voyageurs will now be looking to regroup over the Christmas break, where they will be keep fresh with a road trip out East, in an attempt to regain the spark seen throughout the early stages of the Voyageurs season.
